Frequently Asked Questions

How does an eSIM work in Jersey?

An eSIM in Jersey works by connecting your device to local mobile networks digitally, without needing a physical SIM card. Once you purchase and activate your eSIM plan, it automatically connects to available networks such as JT (Jersey Telecom) or Sure, giving you instant mobile data access. This makes it the most convenient way to stay connected while exploring the island.

Which phones are compatible with eSIM for travel to Jersey?

Most modern smartphones support eSIM technology, including iPhone XS and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, and Google Pixel 3 and above. Before traveling to Jersey, check your device settings to confirm eSIM support and ensure your phone is carrier-unlocked. Some newer iPads, smartwatches, and laptops also support eSIM connectivity.

What is the network coverage and quality like for eSIM users in Jersey?

Jersey offers excellent mobile network coverage across the island, with providers like JT (Jersey Telecom) and Sure delivering reliable 4G LTE and expanding 5G connectivity. Since Jersey is a small island of just 45 square miles, coverage is comprehensive in urban areas like St. Helier as well as rural and coastal zones. eSIM users can expect fast and stable data speeds for browsing, streaming, and navigation.

How do I activate an eSIM before traveling to Jersey?

Activating an eSIM for Jersey is simple and can be done before you depart. After purchasing your eSIM plan, you'll receive a QR code or activation link - scan it in your phone's settings under the cellular or mobile data section. It's recommended to activate while connected to Wi-Fi, and your eSIM will automatically connect to a Jersey network upon arrival.

Is an eSIM cheaper than international roaming in Jersey?

Yes, using an eSIM in Jersey is typically significantly cheaper than international roaming charges from your home carrier. Roaming fees can quickly add up, especially for data-heavy activities, while eSIM plans offer predictable pricing with set data allowances. Travelers can save up to 80-90% compared to traditional roaming by choosing a prepaid eSIM data plan tailored for Jersey.

Can I use my eSIM for data and keep my regular SIM for calls in Jersey?

Absolutely - one of the biggest advantages of eSIM technology is dual-SIM functionality. You can use your eSIM for affordable local data in Jersey while keeping your physical SIM active for calls and texts on your home number. Simply configure your phone's settings to use the eSIM as the primary data line and your regular SIM for voice, giving you the best of both worlds while traveling.

When does my plan start?

This plan: On first use abroad. Validity starts when the eSIM first connects to a network - install before you fly, pay nothing until you land.

"On first use abroad" plans start when the eSIM first connects to a network at your destination, so you can install them before you travel. "When installed" plans start the moment the eSIM is added to your phone, so install those on arrival.
